Is that perfect summer road trip in your future? Then you'd better get a move on before summer makes a sharp turn and becomes fall. This groovy guide to some of the states in the middle of America is worth perusing, even if you're staying firmly put. Based on this guide alone, I think Montana has moved to the top of my must-visit list.
I often lie awake at night wondering how I can fritter away my hard earned cash on frivolous items. Click over to this site and bask in the visual glory of the Portfolio section. Yes, that Samsung fridge will grace my pad soon, and I'll sleep for the next month or so.
Segway, oh Segway, how I love thee. Actually it might just be a case of lust. But even if you think the things are monumentally stupid, the technology is quite nifty. The Segway is designed for very short haul transport. I'm sure the designers wouldn't have imagined somebody would drive the two-wheeled transport from sea to shining sea. Ah, the great American experience of yesteryear is being re-created one agonizingly slow mile after another. This Web site explains all. If you've been living under a rock for the past five years, the second link explains what a Segway is.
I think the problem with the terror alert system is that it's so cold and scary. Self-described geek Alan Penner has come up with a much nicer design that improves on the original with the innovative use of Sesame Street characters. For the record, we're currently Ernie in D.C. and New York, and Bert in the rest of the county. Oh, how I long for the days of Oscar.
If you're a political junkie and don't have Apple's free iTunes player, there's never been a better time to snag a copy. I was delighted to discover that much of the 9/11 Commission hearings are available in MP3 format for free, as are key parts of the Democratic convention (search for "9-11 commission" and "democratic" respectively). It might be reasonable to assume the upcoming Republican shindig also will be available. Of course, if you don't care for iTunes itself, the open MP3 format means you can drag and drop the file to your desktop and listen to it in your favorite player.
