Signings

East Lake had five football players sign, led by quarterback Lewis Caralla, who decided to attend West Virginia Wesleyan. The others were WR Jason Alonso and RB Leo Deartiaga (Whittenburg), DL Mirco Zanella (Jacksonville) and K Chris Ackerman (Georgia Military). DL C.J. Pizzi is a walk-on at the Citadel and made the practice squad.

Tickets for the inaugural Battle of the Bay Kickoff Classic between Dunedin and St. Petersburg at Tropicana Field are on sale at both schools. Admission for the Aug.28 football game is $6. For more information, call event organizer Steve Berrey at (904) 714-9067 or (904) 476-9721.

Around the county The city of Largo will host an NFL Punt, Pass and Kick competition Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Whitesell Softball Complex, 12555 119th St. N. The competition is open to boys and girls 8-15. Entry forms are available at Largo Recreation facilities or www.ppk-nflyouthfootball.com The top finishers in eight age groups will advance to a sectional championship.
