Neighborhood notebook: Happy 10th for Central City Y

TAMPA HEIGHTS - The Central City Family YMCA, 110 E Palm Ave., celebrates 10 years of service with different events Saturday.

Kid's Fun Day with games, prizes and treats runs from 10 a.m. to noon. A Celebration Luncheon follows from noon to 2 p.m. Tickets are $5, which includes lunch, a step show and honors ceremony for longtime members and staff.

An invitation-only Celebration Dinner recognizes volunteer board members, donors and community leaders for their support. Invited guests include Mayor Pam Iorio, Sam Horton of the NAACP, Tonya Hammond of Hammond & Associates, and Steve Raney of Bank of America.

Book sale benefits Friends of Library

DOWNTOWN - Grover's Corners, a used-book store at the John F. Germany Library, 900 N Ashley Drive, celebrates its 10th anniversary with a two-day sale featuring thousands of fiction and nonfiction books.

The sale runs from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. today, and from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.

Proceeds will go to the Friends of the Library Tampa-Hillsborough County to support the public library system. For information, call 273-3616.

Bread and pencils for customers

COURIER CITY - The Great Harvest Bread Co., 500 S Howard Ave., is celebrating its one-year anniversary as a community bakery. As a way to say, "Thanks for your support and kindness," the owners will offer customers loaves of honey whole wheat bread for $1 all day Saturday.

Also, back-to-school mood pencils will be available for school-age bread eaters. These fun pencils change color depending on your mood.

Chamber's After Hours features networking

HARBOUR ISLAND - The Tampa Chamber of Commerce hosts a Business After Hours from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Jackson's Bistro, 601 S Harbour Island Blvd.

Feast on free hors d'oeuvres while networking with chamber members. The event is free to chamber members and $15 for potential members.

Tampa Bucs player at fundraising event

TAMPA - Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Tampa, 5223 Orient Road, hosts the Feel The Rush party with Tampa Bay Buccaneer Simeon Rice from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m. Saturday.

Tickets are $40 through Ticketmaster or $50 at the door. Proceeds will benefit the Simeon J. Rice Charitable Foundation.
