Re: Beach resort project too grand, staff says, story, Aug. 17.
I have viewed the picture of the resort/condo project that is being considered for Clearwater Beach. It is a monstrosity and does not depict the serene, comfortable look that Clearwater Beach has and the reason people love to come to the beach.
It takes up far too much space and blocks the beautiful view that Clearwater Beach is known for. It should be a lower building and not so ornate. It looks as if it should be something built in the Far East, not on a tropical beach.
With the limited roads leading to Clearwater Beach that are already overloaded and crammed during the season, have they considered how bad it will be with the people this building would house? It reminds me of Disney World, but at least there they have methods of dealing with masses of people.
I strongly oppose this building as it stands. Something lower and more tropical would be much more attractive for Clearwater Beach.
At the rate redevelopment (read "destruction") is going, soon only drug dealers and corporate CEOs will be able to afford Clearwater Beach.
Re: Jaycees put ball in city's court, story, Aug. 16.
So, Tarpon Springs wants to add another ballpark. Well, maybe instead of a baseball field, they should build a parking garage. Having lived across the street from Sisler Field for 20 years, I've seen a problem go from bad to worse. Parking. People park everywhere and don't really care - on both sides of the streets, next to stop signs, on sidewalks and, yes, in my yard, leaving tire ruts and trash everywhere.
Funny thing is, I've seen the city fixing up Sisler Field and putting up concrete barriers and parking curbs so that no one parks on the grass around the ball fields. Umm, I'm guessing Tarpon Springs doesn't like anyone parking in their yards either.
I really think the city should fix a problem before spending public money creating another one.
