JACKSONVILLE - The Jaguars released defensive end Tony Brackens. Brackens, an eight-year veteran and former second-round pick, had been on the sideline since Aug. 10 with a strained muscle in back of his right knee.
"It was a business decision I understood," Brackens said Sunday. "It would be hard for me to come in and compete for a spot if I'm not going (to practice). I feel good, I've been working hard. ... Hopefully somebody will pick me up."
Brackens, 29, had been released once this year for salary-cap reasons but was signed again to a one-year contract in June. He is coming back from right knee surgery, a year after having complicated surgery on the other knee.
COLTS: Receiver Troy Walters might need surgery on his broken right arm, an injury sustained in Saturday's preseason loss to the Jets. Coach Tony Dungy said a decision on the surgery would be made today and that he was unsure whether Walters would miss the rest of the season.
DOLPHINS: Judging from the team's latest preseason game - a 17-0 loss to the Redskins - receiver Marty Booker can't arrive quickly enough. While the team wasn't confirming anything, it struck a deal Saturday with the Bears that sent Booker and a third-round 2005 pick to Miami for defensive end Adewale Ogunleye. Coach Dave Wannstedt said he won't comment on the trade with the Bears until the league formally approves the deal, which will happen when both players pass physicals.
TITANS: Pro Bowl punter Craig Hentrich is scheduled for an MRI exam on his lower back to determine the cause of spasms that kept him out of Saturday's game.
