CLEARWATER - A man was arrested Saturday on charges he sexually abused a teenage girl in a wooded area of the Clearwater Memorial Causeway on Saturday evening.

Robert E. Greathouse, 46, of Clearwater Beach was arrested on charges of kidnapping and sexual battery. He was being held at the Pinellas County Jail on Monday in lieu of $200,000 bail.

Clearwater police say Greathouse lured the girl, who is younger than 16, into a wooded area, then sexually abused her. The child got away from Greathouse and ran naked onto the causeway, where she was helped by passers-by. One gave her a shirt to wear until police arrived. Passers-by saw Greathouse, who also was naked, run into the water. Police pulled him out of some mangroves and arrested him. He denied the allegations, arrest reports state.
