Donna J. Petersen, a professor at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, has been named dean of the College of Public Health at the University of South Florida.

In Alabama, Petersen is the former senior associate dean for academic affairs and research.

"Donna Petersen understands the need for leadership in building the next generation of public health and health care professionals in America, and that's exactly USF's vision for our College of Public Health," USF President Judy Genshaft said in a statement. Petersen, whose research has focused on leadership and advocacy for women and children, has a doctorate degree from Johns Hopkins University.
