Night out

Hot ticket: Acoustic heat in the August night

By GINA VIVINETTO
Published August 26, 2004

The Hot Acoustic Nights series continues with a terrific lineup of performers from the local music scene. St. Petersburg's Justin Beckler, above, celebrates the release of Wake Up Process, a new CD filled with Beckler's superb songwriting, sharp guitar and intricate arrangements.

Beckler moved away for a spell and made a name for himself on the Atlanta scene, earning comparisons to Ryan Adams and his hero, Bob Dylan. But Beckler has his own voice, and it's one folks in these parts need to hear.

Rebekah Pulley, also from St. Petersburg, will perform. The talented singer-guitarist keeps her loyal following with the powerful material on this year's brave and beautiful Here in the Real World. Recent shows have featured stunning new songs from the prolific, rootsy pop singer. Check out Pulley's between-song banter; she's a hoot!

Ryan Joy rounds out the bill.

Hot Acoustic Nights Three kicks off at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Catherine A. Hickman Theater, 5501 27th Ave. S, Gulfport. Admission is $10. (727) 893-1070.
