INSIDE THE OLYMPICS - BOXING

THE MATCH: Bouts are four rounds of two-minutes with a one-minute rest period between each round.

A winner is determined by:

  • Who has the most points at the end of the match. This is the most common way matches are won.
  • If one boxer stops fighting or fails to answer the bell for the next round, the opponent is declared the winner.
  • The referee can stop a match if he thinks one boxer is outmatched, unable to continue or is taking too many blows to the head.
  • Knockout.
