Cameron O'Connell, of Dunedin, received the Dunedin Blue Jays 2004 Florida State League Scholarship. The $1,000 scholarship goes to a student with at least a 3.0 GPA and be either an employee of the team or related to an employee. This is the eighth year of the FSL scholarship.
BIC Corporation awarded $80,000 in scholarships this year to students who are children of company employees. Among the students are: Christie Harrison of Tarpon Springs, who attends the University of Tampa and is the daughter of David and Linda Saracino; Joshua Dodge of Palm Harbor, a student at the University of Central Florida and the son of Joseph and Holly Dodge; Vincent Luca of Palm Harbor, a student at Johns Hopkins University and the son of Steven and Dawn Luca; James Enos of Safety Harbor, a student at Florida State University and the son of Rebecca and George Enos; Kimberly Caudill of Largo, a student at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and the daughter of Calvin and Mary Caudill; Mindhy Tran of Clearwater, a student at Eckerd College and the daughter of Hongdiep Nguyen; and Megan Palmer of Oldsmar, a student at the University of Central Florida and sister to Lindsey Palmer, who is attending the University of Florida. Both are the daughters of James and Nancy Palmer.
Students at Dunedin Highland Middle School have participated in Hurricane Charley relief efforts by placing milk cartons at several places around school to collect donations from classmates. The fundraising effort began Aug. 19, and ended Thursday, with a goal of at least $500 from each of the school's three grades. By Aug. 23, the students had gathered $1,764.57, which will be donated to victims of the hurricane.
