Driving classes

The Suncoast Safety Council Inc., offers safe driver classes for anyone 55 and older. Classes can be taken online at www.suncoastsafety.com or at the Suncoast Safety Council, 1145 Court St., Clearwater. The September class is 8:45 a.m.-noon Sept. 7-8. Online courses can be taken at any time. Class fees: $19.95 for online, $11.95 for classroom.

Men 65 and older in the Tampa bay area who have been diagnosed with mild-to-moderate Alzheimer's disease are needed for a clinical research trial testing the safety and effectiveness of the drug leuprolide acetate in halting the progression of Alzheimer's disease.

Alzheimer, which is a progessive disorder of the brain's nerve cells, affects an estimated 4.5-million Americans. Currently, no drugs are available to cure Alzheimer's disease or halt its progression.

The Aladdin Trial is seeking 105 patients for multiple test sites in the United States. Patients will be evaluated for 48 weeks.

Anderson-McQueen Funeral Homes offers the Comfort Circle, a class designed to help participants with grief recovery.

There are afternoon and evening classes at 1:30 and 7 p.m. beginning Sept. 22 at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 7851 54th Ave. N, St. Petersburg.

The Comfort Circle is a six-week course presented by Carole McLeod, a bereavement facilitator and continuing care coordinator. Participants are asked to enroll by the second class and to attend all six sessions for maximum benefit.
