CAST: Jim Caviezel, Maia Morgenstern, Hristo Naumov Shopov, Mattia Sbragia, Francesco De Vito, Monica Bellucci, Rosalinda Celentano, Luca Lionello, Fabio Sartor, Hristo Jivkov
SYNOPSIS: Gibson's controversial retelling of the final 12 hours in the life of Jesus.
WHAT WE SAID: Times film critic Steve Persall gave the film an A-. He wrote, "The Passion of The Christ is as close to cinematic perfection as any film could be, constructed with meticulous attention to detail, including dead languages. Nothing can be faulted about the film except Gibson's disturbing preoccupation with Jesus' passion, his suffering for mankind's sins. Unlike crowd-pleasers such as King of Kings or The Greatest Story Ever Told, the second hour of Gibson's version is so relentlessly gory that some viewers, even true believers, may not last to the end."
MPAA RATING: R; extremely brutal violence
RUNNING TIME: 126 min.
Twisted
DIRECTOR: Philip Kaufman
CAST: Ashley Judd, Samuel L. Jackson, Andy Garcia, David Strathairn, Russell Wong, Camryn Manheim, Mark Pellegrino, D.W. Moffett, Leland Orser
SYNOPSIS: A promiscuous detective (Judd) becomes a suspect in the serial murders of her one-night stands.
WHAT WE SAID: Persall gave the film a D, noting that "what Ashley Judd is doing with her career is a more perplexing mystery than Twisted. . . . The only believable aspect of Twisted is our realization that, yes, police work probably can be this tedious."
MPAA RATING: R; violence, sexual situations, profanity, drug references
RUNNING TIME: 97 min.
