Hot Ticket: Heavy matters brightly overlaid

British trio Snow Patrol recently released Final Straw, an album full of melody-driven pop enriched by violin, xylophone and layers of electric guitar that may remind some of My Bloody Valentine (though one tune sounds unmistakably Pink Floyd-y).

Front guy Gary Lightbody was responsible for the Scottish rock superstar project Reindeer Section, which included members of Belle & Sebastian, Arab Strap and Mogwai.

Lightbody and his cohorts this time around have heavy matters on the mind, even if the sound is often bright and textured with harmonies. Somewhere A Clock Is Ticking, Tiny Little Fractures and the noisefest Wow will make you scratch your head and tap your toe.

Snow Patrol performs with Eisley at 7 p.m. Saturday at the State Theatre, 687 Central Ave., St. Petersburg. $7. (727) 895-3045.
