Gusts blow out TIA windows

TAMPA - Heavy winds blew out several windows at Tampa International Airport this morning.

But spokeswoman Christine Osborn said the airport has sustained no major damage so far, because officials had plenty of time to prepare for the storm and secure equipment.

The National Weather Service predicts gusts of wind could reach up to 62 miles per hour in the Tampa Bay Area today as Frances nears.

All operations at the airport have ceased, she said. Most commercial airlines had stopped flying in and out of the airport by 3 p.m. Saturday.

Several airlines have begun to schedule flight arrivals for mid-morning Monday, Osborn said, weather permitting.
