With the threat of Hurricane Frances expected to largely bypass St. Petersburg, planners were moving forward Friday with this week's Creative Cities Summit 2004.

Creative Cities is a nonprofit organization dedicated to urban re-engineering. The summit, produced by Creative Tampa Bay, is intended to bring together "thinkers and pioneering doers" in the creative economy.

Panelists include the director of cultural planning in Chicago, the head of the Louisiana Film Commission and Florida Secretary of State Glenda Hood.

It begins late Wednesday with registration and a tour at the Salvador Dali Museum in downtown St. Petersburg.

Thursday features a daylong series of speakers and workshops at the Renaissance Vinoy Resort and Golf Club.

Among the workshops: a look at how culture drives the economy; a panel discussion on redevelopment challenges in the downtown core; and a discussion on how businesses can "unleash the creative resources" within their work force.

Registration for the conference is $199, with student discounts available. For more information, contact Peter Kageyama at www.sextantmarketing.com or call 727 643-8498.
