CHRIS SHERMANZardetto Prosecco Brut 2003
Zardetto Prosecco Brut 2003
Italy knew that bubbly could add instant fun to everyday dining long before packagers came up with cute minibottles and cans (Pommery Pop, Sofia, Baby Piper and so on). And with prosecco you can get a whole 750ml for $10 or less.
Don't confuse it with the stuff from Asti. Prosecco is a white grape from Conegliano in the area north of Venice that can be made as a still wine, a little frizzante or bubbling spumante.
With or without, it adds sparkle to the light snacks that Venetians call cicchetti and take during the daily ombra hors (light snack and wine).
Zardetto's 2003 has brightness, a high bubble count, a little sugar but not too much; it smells and tastes of citrus and finishes with a smile.
Pop a bottle any night of the week.
Price and availability: $9 to $11 in wine stores.
