PLANT CITY - A 22-year-old Plant City woman died Wednesday night after the driver of a semitrailer truck didn't see her standing in the road and hit her, sheriff's officials said.

Meagan Elizabeth Erario, of 3152 Bending Oaks Drive, was standing in the westbound lane of Sam Allen Road east of Sunset Oaks Drive shortly before 10 p.m.

Lester Phillips, 60, of Wesley Chapel, was driving west along Sam Allen Road but didn't see Erario right away.

Sheriff's officials say Phillips tried to swerve and brake when he saw her, but it was too late.

Erario was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Sheriff's Office investigation is continuing.
