Re: Public schools can't afford to miss any days, Sept. 9 letter
Editor: In a Sept. 9 letter to the editor, the writer stated, "Frankly, in general, public schools are doing a bad job as it is, and the schools just can't afford to give up any days."
To what does the writer attribute this opinion to? Is he in a public school on a daily basis? Is he a teacher? Does he have children attending public schools now?
As a teacher, I know that we are doing a good job.
If the letter writer is that concerned about how well public schools are doing, perhaps he would like to be a volunteer and work with students in a local school. I'm sure any school would love to have him. All he needs to do is show up in the front office and ask for a volunteer application.

Pasco County officials difficult to reach
Editor: I have some issues that I would like to get out about Pasco County and the elected officials. They are not available to correspond with. I have been to the Pasco County government page on the Web. It tells me who the county commissioners are, but you would think in this day and age they would have a telephone number or an e-mail address where they could be contacted.
I had to contact U.S. Rep Karen Thurman once on a matter dealing with my wife's Army medical records. She or at least her office was available, and the problem was resolved. Now how do you do that in Pasco County? It's like they get elected, and then you don't have any contact with them.
One of the issues I have been trying to bring up is code enforcement. Why are codes not being enforced? They let people park on these narrow streets. They let owners, almost slumlords, go long periods of time without cutting their grass. Just go to Kindard Lane and Maitland Drive for a prime example. Waist-high weeds. I have complained twice, and it was mowed the first time, but the second time I have not heard from anybody.
