TAMPA - The Bucs are focused on Sunday's opener against the Redskins but cannot help but have an eye on Hurricane Ivan as it makes its way toward Florida.
"I think it's distracting for all of us, everybody out there in Florida," coach Jon Gruden said. "These storms are looming out there. You wonder when it's going to end.
"But you just try to educate yourself and everybody the best way you can. You try to have a contingency plan in place, just in case it hits."
Hurricanes Charley and Frances, which hit Florida in the past month, altered the team's training camp and practice schedules. Ivan could do the same next week, when the Bucs turn their attention to the home opener Sept. 19 against Seattle.
The itinerary for this weekend has not changed, with the team flying to Washington this afternoon and scheduled to return Sunday night.
"It's not an easy contingency plan to come up with," Gruden said. "This is a fierce storm."
TRAVELING LIGHT: Speedy receiver Joey Galloway nursed a groin strain for much of the preseason but said the injury will not hamper him against the Redskins.
"It doesn't matter if the groin is sore or if I have to leave the groin here in Tampa when we go to Washington," Galloway said. "Either way, on Sunday I'll be ready to go."
CHESS GAME: Coaches reveal little about their teams during preseason games, when playcalling is bland and defenses basic. But Redskins first-year defensive coordinator Gregg Williams was not shy about blitzing during five preseason games.
"The blitz reel is five reels long," Gruden said of studing film of Washington's defense. "We're still looking at the blitz reel. But it's going to be a very interesting game. We haven't shown all our stuff on defense, either. Anything goes."
INJURY REPORT: Right tackle Kenyatta Walker (knee) is probable.
