TAMPA - A Lake Mary man faces a second-degree murder charge after authorities say he shot and killed a co-worker following an argument at a Days Inn on Adamo Drive.

Eric Daniel Ware, 29, was being held Friday night at the Orient Road Jail with no bail.

Ware and 36-year-old William Carpenter of Zephyrhills were co-workers in town working on a radio tower for an Orlando company, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office. The two got into an argument Thursday, and then into a fight in Carpenter's room at the Days Inn at 9942 Adamo Drive, deputies said.

About 3 a.m. Friday, Ware called the front desk from his own room and said he had shot someone, the Sheriff's Office said.

The hotel clerk called the Sheriff's Office and deputies found Ware, who said he had shot Carpenter. Ware said he did not know how Carpenter got into his room, and said he'd been concerned for his safety.

Carpenter, who was shot in the upper left chest with a .45 caliber Beretta handgun, was not armed at the time, the Sheriff's Office said. He died at the scene.
