State: Tulane rattles FAMU

NEW ORLEANS - Jovon Jackson rushed for 134 yards and three touchdowns as Tulane defeated Florida A&M 39-19 on Saturday.

Jackson scored on runs of eight and 17 yards as Tulane (1-1) built a 25-13 halftime lead. He scored again on a 4-yard run in the third.

Green Wave quarterback Lester Ricard completed 12-of-16 for 174 yards. He hit Bubba Terranova with a 38-yard TD pass in the first quarter and Gabe Ratcliff with a 5-yard score to in the second.

Tulane sacked A&M quarterbacks Ben Dougherty and Josh Driscoll 11 times for 67 yards in losses. The I-AA Rattlers fell to 0-2.

FIU 22, YOUNGSTOWN ST. 16 (OT): David Tabor threw two touchdowns in the fourth quarter and a 1-yard TD pass to James Williams in overtime to lift visiting Florida International. FIU (1-0) trailed 13-0 at halftime and didn't score until Adam Moss kicked a 31-yard field goal with 9:24 left in the third.

Tabor, who finished 15-of-22 for 174 yards, connected with Harold Leath on a 9-yard TD with 2:33 left to tie the score at 16. FIU got the ball first in overtime and moved 24 yards in three plays, setting up Tabor's TD to Williams from the 1. On Youngstown State's (1-1) possession, Tom Zetts fumbled and Lance Preston recovered for FIU to end the game.

FAU 20, N. TEXAS 13: Doug Parker plunged into the end zone from a yard out with 29 seconds left to lift visiting Florida Atlantic. The Owls (2-0), the fourth-year program coached by Howard Schnellenberger, got the winning points on their last offensive play. Patrick Cobbs, the nation's leading rusher last season, left in the third with what North Texas (2-0) said was a sprained left knee. The injury will be evaluated Monday.

B-CC 27, ARK.-PINE BLUFF 14: Bethune-Cookman's Jesus Cortez kicked a 46-yard field goal for a 3-0 lead over the visiting Golden Lions at the half. The Wildcats (1-0) kept the run going at the beginning of the third, recovering a loose ball and scoring in six plays.

WINGATE 42, JU 9: Redshirt sophomore Jerry Brant ran for 93 yards in his first start, but visiting Jacksonville (0-1) could not overcome Wingate's (3-0) 541 yards and 35 first-half points. The Dolphins scored when freshman fullback Corey Saunders of Bradenton bulled his way in for a 1-yard TD with 1:36 left in the third.
