Vandals slash tires in Bayonet Point

BAYONET POINT - Sheriff's deputies spent much of Saturday morning taking reports from angry and dismayed residents whose cars' tires had been slashed the night before.

A count was not available Saturday, but it seemed that about a dozen or more cars parked in people's driveways had been vandalized, the Sheriff's Office reported. Many had occurred along streets near State Road 52 and Majestic Boulevard.

"They slashed all four tires, not just one or two," said Deputy James Campbell. "Looks like they're using a box cutter or a pocket knife."

Campbell investigated a Lexus and a Jeep Cherokee that had been slashed. Both vehicles' hoods had also been keyed, he said. "It's just an apparent act of blatant vandalism."

No arrests had been made Saturday.
