LAKELAND - A father was held without bail Tuesday after spraying his son with shotgun pellets while trying to settle a dispute between the 17-year-old and another teenager.

Rudolph I. Baker, 41, was held in the Polk County Jail on two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and two additional gun charges. His son, Stivel Baker, was treated for minor leg injuries at Lakeland Regional Medical Center and released.

Lakeland police said Stivel Baker and 18-year-old Raymond Robinson argued Monday at a bus stop outside the apartment complex where both live. Investigators said it was not clear what the disagreement was about.

After the argument, Rudolph Baker and his son confronted Robinson in the breezeway of the complex and Baker fired the shotgun at the ground.

Several small pellets ricocheted off the ground and struck Stivel Baker in his legs, police said.

Family members could not be reached for comment.
