Hello, I Must Be Going by George Pappas

George Pappas has a way with visual metaphors, as seen in Hello, I Must Be Going, shown right, with its allusions to mortality. "Heaven on Earth," an exhibition of his paintings at Clayton Galleries, 4105 S MacDill Ave., Tampa, opens Friday with a free reception from 7 to 9 p.m. In 1993, Pappas retired from the University of South Florida, where he taught art. It was a loss to his students but a boon for the rest of us, because he has more time for his own paint brushes. The exhibition continues through Nov. 6. Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. (813) 831-3753.
