LAWRENCE, Kan. - Taurean Henderson ran for 169 yards and won it with a 70-yard run as Texas Tech rallied from 25 down to beat Kansas 31-30 on Saturday.
Henderson's winner, with 2:37 left, came three plays after Kansas' Scott Webb hit the left upright on a 39-yard field goal. Two plays after Henderson's long run, Jabari Smith sealed the Red Raiders' win with the second of their three interceptions.
Sonny Cumbie threw four interceptions for the Red Raiders but also two touchdowns. He finished 28-for-52 for 356 yards with touchdowns to Trey Haverty and Jarrett Hicks. The receiving duo had eight catches each, Haverty for 143 yards and Hicks for 131.
Texas Tech's outburst came a week after scoring 56 in a row in a 70-35 win over TCU.
Webb came up short from 45 yards earlier in the fourth quarter, part of the biggest comeback ever against the Jayhawks. Colorado came back from 19-0 in the fourth quarter for a 20-19 victory in 1961.
After Charles Gordon, a cornerback who also threw a touchdown, caught a 20-yard touchdown from Adam Barmann, Kansas led 30-5 with 48 seconds left in the first half. The Red Raiders needed only 33 seconds to drive 80 yards and score on Cumbie's 32-yard pass to Haverty. The failed two-point conversion left Texas Tech down 30-11.
Chad Johnson intercepted Barmann on Kansas' first second-half possession, returning it 56 yards to the 12. Two plays later, Henderson's 1-yard run made it 30-18. Cumbie's 27-yard pass to Hicks late in the third made it 30-24 after a missed extra point.
TEXAS 35, RICE 13: Cedric Benson rushed for 189 yards, 169 in the first half, and a touchdown and Vince Young threw three touchdowns to his tight ends for the host Longhorns. Texas entered first in the nation in rushing and Rice first in rushing defense. But the Longhorns gained 339 yards on the ground.
Benson's 2-yard run capped a nine-play, 80-yard drive and made it 14-3 in the first quarter. He ran 43 yards during a second-quarter drive to set up Young's second touchdown, a 22-yarder to David Thomas. Then Tony Jeffery, a receiver and holder, took a fake field goal 2 yards for a 28-3 halftime lead.
BAYLOR 37, NORTH TEXAS 14: Dane King threw two touchdowns in 42 seconds during the fourth for the host Bears. King's 7-yarder to Dominique Zeigler was followed by a 40-yarder to Marques Roberts to make it 34-14.
