AL: Angels take the West lead

By Associated Press
Published October 2, 2004

OAKLAND, Calif. - The Angels considered themselves a playoff team all along, even while they spent the summer playing catch up. Now they're one win away. Bartolo Colon dominated in seven sharp innings while pitching on three days' rest for the third time in his career, and No. 9 hitter Alfredo Amezaga had a grand slam in a 10-0 win over the A's.

Andres Galarraga led off the ninth with his first homer and No. 399 of his career. The Angels had hits from nine players as they won for the sixth time in seven games and take a one-game West lead over the A's with two to play.

BLUE JAYS 7, YANKEES 0: David Bush pitched a two-hitter in the first complete game of his career for host Toronto, a day after New York clinched the East title. The Yankees started just one regular, leftfielder Hideki Matsui.

TWINS 4, INDIANS 3: Corey Koskie hit a go-ahead two-run single in the eighth for host Minnesota, which is still trying to clinch homefield advantage in the ALDS.

RED SOX 8, ORIOLES 3: David Ortiz hit a three-run home run in a five-run eighth for visiting Boston, the wild-card champs.

WHITE SOX 4, ROYALS 2: Jon Garland pitched six solid innings for Chicago.
