LAND O'LAKES - Lightning and rain delayed the Class 4A, District 7 opener for Land O'Lakes and River Ridge, with kickoff finally coming at 9 p.m.

The Gators, behind a powerful offensive line and Scott Mays' running, won 31-6 for their eighth straight victory over the Royal Knights. Mays ran for 109 yards and three touchdowns, all in the first half, to stake Land O'Lakes to a 31-0 halftime lead. Sam Bell's 15-yard scamper into the right corner with 5:01 left allowed River Ridge to avoid the shutout.

Sharks fall to Golden Gate

Golden Gate quarterback Brett Norris and tailback Jeff David overwhelmed visiting Nature Coast Tech, winning 55-38.

Norris led the Titans (2-3) to their second win of the season against the 1-3 Sharks. David had 210 yards on 18 carries and four rushing touchdowns. Rian Williams finished with 34 rushes for 173 yards for the Sharks. Behind quarterback Billy Hughes, who was 13-of-20 for 147 yards in the second half, Nature Coast Tech outscored the Titans 24-14.
