Xpress, the Coolest Section of the St. Petersburg Times, is the home for features, news and views of interest to young readers. Most of the work in Xpress, which appears on Mondays in Floridian, is produced by the Times' X-Team. The team of journalists ages 9-17 from around the Tampa Bay area is selected every year at the end of the school year to serve during the following school term. The current team of 12 was chosen out of 150 applicants. Watch for X-Team application forms in Xpress during the month of May.

Web site offers tricks, treats for Halloween

Though it isn't cool here yet, we have reached October and the time to scare up some Halloween fun. Check out www.trickortreats.com/index.asp to find many Halloween activities. The Web site is sponsored by Hershey's, so you'll see a lot of the company's candy. But push past all the candy bars to enjoy the activities. Take the personality quiz and discover your inner monster; play the Monster Match to find the scary ghouls in the haunted mansion; and try your hand at the virtual pumpkin carving planner. It's a fun way to kick off the month.

Ever wondered who Ellegirl readers think is the coolest celeb? Coolest couple? Coolest designer? Wonder no more. The first global survey to determine what is on teens' minds hits the newstands in the October issue of Ellegirl. No Ben and Jen on this list (unless you count Jennifer Lopez and "name here" as the No. 2 uncool couple. No. 1: Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher). Nick Lachey and Jessica Simpson top the list of coolest couple, and Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston are second in the national poll results. (Brad and Jen are the No. 1 coolest couple on the international list.) The readers even picked the coolest career (fashion designer), coolest new band (Good Charlotte) and coolest historical figure (Martin Luther King Jr.). And before you start feeling story for Ashton, he was the third-coolest guy, behind actors Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom. Ellegirl readers just want him all to themselves.
