ATLANTA - Despite throwing six interceptions the past two weeks, Georgia Tech sophomore Reggie Ball will start at quarterback Saturday at No.23 Maryland, coach Chan Gailey said.
"The guy has started 17 games, and he has won nine of them," Gailey said Tuesday. "It's not like the guy is nothing."
In four games, Ball has completed 54 of 111 passes for 684 yards, seven touchdowns and eight interceptions.
Gailey did say converted receiver Damarius Bilbo could get a few snaps but senior Mark Logan will remain the backup.
ALABAMA: Quarterback Marc Guillon will make his third straight start despite getting benched for Spencer Pennington on Saturday. Guillon is 15-of-36 for 120 yards with three interceptions and no completions longer than 20 yards since replacing Brodie Croyle, who sustained a season-ending knee injury. Pennington is 1-of-6 for 4 yards and two interceptions. Also, receiver Keith Brown said he is "50-50" after sustaining a concussion Saturday.
ARKANSAS: Carlos Ousley, the team's third-leading receiver, quit the team. The junior has nine catches for 102 yards. A new depth chart moved receiver Steven Harris to flanker, Ousley's position, and freshman Marcus Monk to split end.
OKLAHOMA ST.: Cornerback Darrent Williams, third in the nation in punt returns at 22.7 yards, will miss at least a month after breaking his arm, the Daily Oklahoman reported. Citing a privacy law, coach Les Miles and the school said only he cut a finger and bruised his arm during separate incidents Saturday.
SOUTH CAROLINA: Starting receiver Matthew Thomas was suspended for at least three weeks for issues related to class attendance and other academic matters, coach Lou Holtz said.
CANADIAN BOWL: Don Loding, who runs the Motor City Bowl, is leading a group that hopes to bring a bowl game to Toronto's SkyDome for next season. He hopes to include a Mid-American Conference team.
