Delta starts fare sale

On Wednesday, Delta Air Lines launched a sale on flights between Florida and most cities throughout its domestic network Wednesday.

One-way sale fares from Tampa International Airport included $59 to New York, not including taxes and fees. The sale lasts through Oct. 15 for travel until Dec. 15, not including the Thanksgiving holiday week.

Delta followed other airlines with big stakes in Florida. On Tuesday AirTran Airways announced a four-day sale and JetBlue Airways has extended a summer sale that offers $59 fares between Florida and New York.

The impact of Florida's hurricanes on tourism and additional capacity that airlines are bringing to the state have combined to keep fares cheap, said Terry Trippler, president of a travel Web site and a veteran fare watcher.

"There are too many seats on too many planes to Florida," he said. "So, you're going to have lower fares. People in Florida, enjoy it while you can."
