Hot ticket: Living legacy of Judy Garland

By JOHN FLEMING
Published October 7, 2004

Lorna Luft has long been labeled "Judy Garland's other daughter," but lately she has outshined half-sister Liza Minnelli with a one woman-show, Songs My Mother Taught Me: A Celebration of the Music of Judy Garland. Luft, whose mother once said she had the best voice in the family, appears this weekend with the Florida Orchestra, performing such Garland standards as Come Rain Or Come Shine, For Me and My Gal and You Made Me Love You - but not Over the Rainbow. "Nobody should sing that song," Luft says. Her mother on video sings Dorothy's signature number, as well as duets with Luft, in the multimedia show. Performances at 8 p.m. Friday in Morsani Hall of Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center, Tampa; 8 p.m. Saturday at Mahaffey Theater, St. Petersburg; and 7:30 p.m. Sunday at Ruth Eckerd Hall, Clearwater. $15.50-$50.50. (813) 286-2403 or toll-free 1-800-662-7286; www.floridaorchestra.org.
