Hot rods. Few things are more uniquely American. The 17th annual NSRA Southeast Street Rod Nationals this weekend at the Florida State Fairgrounds is a rolling gallery of pre-1949 classic chrome, outrageous style and rumbling exhaust, such as the customized '48 Mercury convertible, above. More than 1,300 cars will be on display at the NSRA's season-ending event.

Gates are open from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday at the Florida State Fairgrounds, U.S. 301 off Interstate 4, Tampa. Admission is $10 adults, $3 ages 6 to 12. Enter by U.S. 301 or Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. (813) 621-7821.
