Roll call

By Times Staff Writer
Published October 10, 2004

GO-TO GUY: Talk about production. Rams receiver Isaac Bruce's 2004 has started off with a bang. He is the first receiver since the Oilers' Charley Hennigan in 1963 with four straight 100-yard games.

HOME FREEZE: Hey, whatever happened to the mystique of Lambeau Field? The Packers have lost six of their past 12 home games.

RUN DOWN: And you thought a defensive genius like Marvin Lewis would never let this happen. The Bengals are allowing 165.8 yards on the ground per game, worst in the league. Okay, so they've been ravaged by Curtis Martin (196), Jamal Lewis (186) and Duce Staley (123), but come on!

A LOT WITH A LITTLE: From the which-stat-is-more-amazing department comes this little nugget: Steelers running back Jerome Bettis has a woeful 1.2 yards per carry. He has five touchdowns, however.

CHIN UP, CHRIS: For Bucs fans, here's some encouraging news: A first-time quarterback can get on a roll. Steelers rookie Ben Roethlisberger has won his first two starts. Since 1970, the record is six by Pittsburgh's Mike Kruczek in 1976. Phil Simms is next with four in 1979.

Times staff writer Roger Mills compiled this report, which used information from other news organizations.
