Mike Wilson, newsfeatures editor for the St. Petersburg Times, has been named an assistant managing editor.
Wilson, 43, oversees all the Times' feature sections: Floridian, Homes, Taste, Travel, Seniority, Weekend and the 2B entertainment page, as well as pages devoted to health, gardening and other interests.
"Under Mike's direction, our features sections continue to host some of the most powerful, funny and meaningful stories that connect us closely with our readers," Executive Editor Neil Brown said in announcing the promotion. "This title reflects Mike's good work and his place in the senior management team."
Wilson worked for 12 years as a writer and editor at the Miami Herald. After joining the Times in 1995, he covered religion and wrote major features, and he was part of the 1998 team that was a Pulitzer Prize finalist for coverage of the Henry Lyons scandal. He was the editor of Turn, a monthly section the Times produced as the new century approached.
He was named Floridian editor in 2000 and Newsfeatures editor last year.
A native of Connecticut and a graduate of Tufts University, Wilson has written two books: Right on the Edge of Crazy, about the U.S. downhill ski team, and The Difference Between God and Larry Ellison, about the chief executive of Oracle Corp.
