TAMPA - Bayshore Christian held off a third-game challenge to sweep Cambridge 25-19, 25-21, 25-22 Tuesday night.
"I thought we might be able to make a run at them in that third game," Cambridge player Kelley Taylor said. "We just weren't able to get it done tonight after we got in that 2-0 hole in games."
Senior Stevi Cherry and sophomore Christine Williamson led the way for Bayshore Christian (17-4), the 2003 Class A state champion. Cherry had eight kills and 10 digs and Williamson added 13 kills.
"We have played a lot of games in the past five days and it has taken its toll on us," Bayshore Christian coach Melanie Humenansky said. "It was a good match for us tonight and now we look forward to picking it up a notch as we head into the postseason."
"I thought we played well tonight," Cambridge coach Cindy Stenberg said. "We had lost in three games to them earlier this year and were somewhat intimidated. But tonight we held our own and made progress. I was very pleased with the play of Sarah Kocher and Kristen Day."
Humenansky notched her 218th win in her 11th season at Bayshore Christian. Stenberg is 20-4 in her first year at the helm of the Lancers.
