DUNEDIN - The city has been recognized as a Preserve America Community, a designation administered on behalf of the Office of the First Lady to recognize cities that protect and celebrate their heritage and use their historic assets for economic development and community revitalization.

Preserve America is a White House initiative in cooperation with the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation, the U.S. Department of the Interior, the U.S. Department of Commerce, the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

The city, which applied for the designation earlier this year, was one of 61 cities chosen, and the only one in Tampa Bay.

The 169 selected communities receive national recognition for their efforts and are allowed to use the Preserve America logo.
