BRANDON - Hillsborough officials say they're still playing catchup on restoring some regular services throughout the county because of this year's hurricane season.
Crews had to postpone road maintenance, such as mowing medians, to give attention to hurricane cleanup efforts, said David Braxton, a general manager for Hillsborough Right of Way Management.
Weeds in the median on W Lumsden Road in Brandon between S Kings Avenue and Providence Road, for example, are several feet tall.
"Our mowing crews were diverted after Hurricanes Frances and Jeanne to perform emergency operations," said Braxton. "We do have a timetable to catch up. We will work overtime as necessary to catch up on the mowing."
Instead of attacking the weeds along the roadways, Braxton said, crews have focused on the potholes in the roads left from the storms. Things are slowly getting back to normal, and Braxton said the median on Lumsden should be mowed sometime between Monday and Friday next week.
