Riverview man abused child in 1984, officials say

TAMPA - A Riverview man was arrested Wednesday and charged with sexually abusing a child 20 years ago.

Thomas Michael Moyer, 57, was arrested at the Apollo Beach TECO plant where he works and charged with two counts of sexual battery on a victim less than 12 years old.

He is being held without bail at the Orient Road Jail.

Hillsborough County sheriff's spokeswoman Debbie Carter said the woman in the case, now living in Ohio, contacted authorities here on April 10.

Carter did not release the woman's name or her relationship to Moyer, but said she was "someone known to the suspect."

The woman told authorities the two assaults happened in Hillsborough County in 1984.

Because the woman lives out of state, it took investigators several months to conduct interviews and obtain the evidence needed to secure a warrant for Moyer's arrest, Carter said.

Moyer has no criminal history in Florida, according to state records.

TECO spokesman Ross Bannister said Moyer has held a steady job with TECO for 29 years, now in the plant operations division.
