ORLANDO - Brett Biggs ran for 150 yards and a touchdown and Akron took advantage of four turnovers to defeat Central Florida 26-21 on Saturday night.
Akron converted two giveaways into touchdowns and used a pair of fourth-quarter interceptions to thwart a comeback attempt by UCF. The loss extends the Golden Knights' losing streak to 10, the longest in the nation.
UCF quarterback Steven Moffett completed 30-of-41 for 322 yards and two touchdowns, but his two interceptions were costly. Moffett's 32-yard TD to Tavaris Capers cut the Golden Knights' deficit to 26-14 with 11:55 left. But Akron cornerbacks Dionte Henry and Dwayne LeFall stopped the next two UCF drives with interceptions.
VA. TECH 62, FAMU 0: Bryan Randall passed for four touchdowns, despite throwing just 14 passes, and host Virginia Tech forced five turnovers. The Hokies pounded the undersized Rattlers in the teams' first meeting.
The Rattlers, who briefly moved to Division I-A last season and set their schedule before moving back down, have lost all four games this year against opponents in the NCAA's top division. The Hokies started their first four possessions from the Florida A&M 16, 33, 13 and 19 - scoring three TDs and a field goal - all in the first quarter.
FAU 39, N. COLORADO 24: Jared Allen threw for a touchdown and ran for a second as visiting Florida Atlantic (5-0) remained unbeaten. Allen was 16-of-26, passing for 255 yards for the Owls. Damon Parker ran for 82 yards and a touchdown, and FAU's special teams blocked a field goal and a punt. Northern Colorado, which suffered its sixth consecutive loss, is off to its worst start since 1987 when it began 1-7.
LA.-MONROE 28, FIU 20: Steven Jyles threw two touchdowns and ran for one as Louisiana-Monroe rallied to end a six-game home skid. Louisiana-Monroe overcame a 17-0 deficit and scored 21 straight. Adam Moss connected on a 42-yard field goal at 1:15 of the third to cut the ULM lead to 21-20. But the Indians defense took charge, forcing two turnovers in the final five minutes and getting a defensive score.
S.C. STATE 28, B-CC 14: Coty Martin's 1-yard touchdown run early in the fourth put host South Carolina State ahead for good. Martin had 22 carries for 89 yards and two touchdowns. S.C. State also took the lead in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference. The Bulldogs forced five Bethune-Cookman turnovers - recovering two of four fumbles and intercepting three passes.
JACKSONVILLE 31, AUSTIN-PEAY 14: Eldin Ferguson caught two touchdowns and Phillip Fields broke an 80-yard scoring run to lead the host Dolphins. Jacksonville racked up 323 yards on the ground. Jacksonville's Jerry Brant gained 101 of his game-high 123 yards in the first half, including a 5-yard TD run in the second quarter.
