ST. LEO - Amber Ferrol held 11 single-season and career goalkeeping records for the Saint Leo women's soccer team before this season.

Make that 10 and add Katie Stephenson 's name to the record book.

Ferrol, a 2004 graduate, was spectacular last season when the Lions had a school-record 12 wins and made their first playoff appearance.

Stephenson, a sophomore, broke Ferrol's single-season shutout mark Friday with her sixth clean sheet in a 1-0 win over West Georgia. Ferrol had five last year when Stephenson played 43 minutes, allowed one goal and made two saves.

Stephenson has played every minute for the Lions (8-4, 2-3 Sunshine State Conference). She had shutouts in Saint Leo's first three games and has 31 saves and an 0.50 goals-against average.

"We're extremely proud of her," coach Tony Paris said. "She seems to be stepping up to the plate. For someone who didn't play much last year she's really delivered the goods this year."

Stephenson has had plenty of help. The keeper from Texas benefits from a stingy defense that has given up just six goals in 12 games.

"I just can't say enough about how well we're playing in the back," Paris said.

Saint Leo split two 1-0 home games last week, including a loss Tuesday to Barry.

BEST WEEK YET: The Saint Leo men's soccer team, which does not play until Saturday when it visits Melbourne for a 2 p.m. game against Florida Tech, has time to relish the season's best week.

The Lions (8-3-1, 2-2-1) won three straight and are on their second four-game winning streak. Saint Leo defeated Saint Thomas 2-1 Sunday, Eckerd 3-0 Wednesday and Covenant 2-0 on Saturday.

The winning streak began with a 7-0 win over Southeastern on Oct.8.

Giancarlo Conte and Corey Ahern each scored twice last week with Mikael Angesjo , Asmir Pervan and Robert Pollock (Hudson) each adding a goal.

Pollock, a junior defender, was named SSC defensive player of the week.

SIX IN A ROW: The Pasco-Hernando Community College volleyball team extended its winning streak to six with four victories in the Lake Sumter tournament.

The Conquistadors (23-7, 8-2 Suncoast Conference) beat Broward and Gulf Coast on Friday before Saturday's wins over South Florida and Lake Sumter. All but the 3-1 win over Gulf Coast came in three games.

Danielle DeGrove and Leah Schmiedge led PHCC to the title. DeGrove had 31 kills, 16 blocks and 5 digs; Schmiedge posted 27 kills, 23 blocks, 15 aces and 14 digs.
