'Anna' crosses Tampa Bay

It will be interesting to see how Anna in the Tropics works away from American Stage, whose intimate mainstage was the perfect venue for Nilo Cruz's poetic play, set in an Ybor City cigar factory in 1929. The company's hit production has moved to Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center's Jaeb Theater, a larger space in which Jeff Dean's set will be reconfigured to fit the stage.

Above, part of the cast gathers at Ybor Square, once a cigar factory. From left are Karen Garcia, Jose Antonio, Joe Masi, Jessica Pimentel and Geisha Otero.

Anna in the Tropics, which won the Pulitzer Prize for drama, opens tonight and runs through Oct. 31 in the Jaeb. Show times are 8 p.m. Thursday, 7:30 p.m. Friday, 2 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday. $28.50. 813 229-7827 or toll-free 1-800-955-1045; www.tbpac.org
