Thank you so much for Rick Gershman's piece on Dr. Lynne Gackle and Gulf Coast Youth Choirs Inc. Dr. Gackle inspires artistic and beautiful expression through vocal music. That in itself is wonderful for young singers. And, as Mr. Gershman wrote, there's more.
The Gulf Coast Youth Choirs is an organization whose membership is richly diverse. The organization, with Dr. Gackle's leadership, celebrates and capitalizes upon that diversity as the gift it is.
Respect and high expectations are key elements in Dr. Gackle's work, and these are reflected in the organization. At any performance, you will see young people of different cultures, national origins, races, family backgrounds, economic circumstances and faiths supporting each other and producing beautiful music.
Mr. Gershman's article strikingly captures the essence of the Gulf Coast Youth Choirs and Lynne Gackle's work. These young musicians are learning some of life's greatest lessons, lessons that we would all do well to learn.
