Brandon Bevan, a 16-year-old in critical condition from carbon monoxide poisoning, has shown some signs of improvement, a relative said Thursday.
"He's having a response if you talk to him," said Todd Bevan, Brandon Bevan's uncle. He said the teenager is still in critical condition.
"There is no way they can tell how he'll recover," Todd Bevan said. "It's going to be a waiting game."
Brandon Bevan was rushed to Morton Plant Hospital in Clearwater on Wednesday after his mother, Kathleen Francis Bevan, committed suicide by running her car in a closed garage.
Carbon monoxide from the burning gasoline seeped into the house, killing her husband, Gary Bevan, and injuring Brandon, the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office said. Investigators say they don't think the woman intended to hurt others.
From Morton Plant Hospital, Brandon Bevan was taken to an Orlando hospital with a hyperbaric chamber used to treat patients with carbon monoxide poisoning.
He has since been moved to St. Joseph's Hospital in Tampa, the Sheriff's Office said Thursday. A spokeswoman for St. Joseph's declined to give further information.
