Times Staff WriterTom Fisher has coached Zephyrhills since taking over for Barry Gardner before the 1989 season and is on the verge of joining Land O'Lakes' John Benedetto (159-138 before tonight) as a 100-game winner. Pasco's Dale Caparaso has 112 career wins, but only 12 at Pasco. Here's what some county rivals have to say about Fisher, 99-61 in his 16th season at Zephyrhills.
"I think the biggest shock las year was when we beat them and he hugged me. That's usually not his manner. I remember years when people were saying Zephyrhills will be nothing and he comes out and wins. I hope he gets (100 wins) after us."
- Pasco assistant Terry Voyles, who last season as Hudson's coach upset the Bulldogs.
"Tom Fisher is a very laid-back coach. He's hard to get a read on, but he's always had very aggressive, talented teams. If they were nothing else, they were aggressive on defense."
- Gulf coach Keith Newton.
"Tom's a good coach. We always had problems with his teams. They're tough. They're fighters. They know how to win."
- Land O'Lakes coach John Benedetto
"Everytime we play Zephyrhills you know you're going to get a tough football game. He's always had them ready. He's been around. It's probably a good time to get his 100th win."
- Wesley Chapel coach John Castelamare
"Tom might do the best job of anybody in the county. I truly believe that, year in and year out, he gets the most out of his kids. How he does it I don't know. I'm not over there."
- Mitchell coach Scott Schmitz
