Without a single swimmer finishing first, Crystal River girls used its depth to win the Class A, District 3 championship at the National Triathlon Training Center in Clermont.
Crystal River won the title with 365 points. Trinity Catholic was second at 327, followed by Eustis (326), Mount Dora (225) and Pasco (215).
"I knew they would be competitive, but I was astounded when I saw our name was at the top of the list as the winners," said Crystal River coach Tim Holme, who began the Pirates program in 1992. "This is the first time ever, in my recollection, that we've won the championship, without having an individual champion."
Crystal River also won girls titles in 1997 and 1999.
Eustis' boys won their first district title with 410 points, followed by Zephyrhills (306), Pasco (253), Trinity Catholic (250) and Crystal River (247). Eustis freshman Matt Ballard won the 100 backstroke and swam on the winning 200 medley relay and 400 free relay.
