TAMPA - A bystander trying to break up an Ybor City bar fight early Sunday morning was fatally stabbed in the heart, police said.
David Christian Anderson, 34, of 6704 S Faul St., Tampa, died during the 1:15 a.m. melee at the New World Brewery, 1313 E Eighth Ave.
Anderson joined a growing crowd that tried to stop a fight between David Jefferson Decker, 31, of 1604 S Miller Road, Valrico, and Christopher Bellamy, 36, 704 SW 16th Ave., Apt. 208, in Gainesville, said Tampa police spokeswoman Laura McElroy.
Bellamy was annoyed with Decker for using the microphone and playing with the sound system and asked him to stop.
When Decker wouldn't, Bellamy pulled out a knife and started swinging it, McElroy said.
"It was quite a scuffle," she said.
During the fight, Bellamy stabbed Anderson in the heart and he stabbed Decker in the arm and stomach.
Decker was taken to Tampa General Hospital. McElroy said Sunday he was listed in serious condition.
Charges of homicide and attempted homicide were pending Sunday, McElroy said.
Investigators were waiting to talk with Decker to find out what happened. Bellamy said he used the knife in self defense, McElroy said.
So far, police have charged Bellamy with possession of cocaine and possession of a controlled substance for having Xanax, a tranquilizer. Bellamy was being held in lieu of $4,000 bail Sunday.
