TAMPA - A 53-year-old woman died Sunday morning after being hit by a van as she tried to walk across a North Tampa road, officials said.

Christine Crawford of 14831 Winding Creek Court, Tampa, was walking northbound through the intersection of W Bearss Avenue and North Boulevard in Carrollwood about 6:50 a.m., the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office said.

About the same time, Barry Geiger, 59, of 5614 Pat Road, Zephyrhills, was westbound in a 1997 Dodge van when he hit Crawford, deputies said.

Paramedics transported Crawford to St. Joseph's Hospital, where deputies said she died shortly after arriving.

Deputies said they don't suspect alcohol in the accident. No charges are pending against Geiger.
