FSU, UF tie for seventh
Florida State and Florida tied for seventh and South Florida tied for 14th at the Paladin Golf Invitational in Greenville, S.C., won by host Furman. FSU's Whitney Brummett finished tied for fourth at 218 for 54 holes, five strokes behind winner Monique Gesualdi of Furman. Tiffany Chudy (223, tied for 27th) led the Gators and Christina Jones (222, T18th) topped the Bulls. Florida International finished 17th and Miami tied for 18th.
WOMEN'S SOCCER: Seniors Katie Calvin , Melanie Moody and Amy Pfitzinger scored on Senior Day to lead host Tampa (9-3-1, 5-1-1 Sunshine State Conference) over Florida Tech 6-0. ... USF (4-8-2, 3-5-0 C-USA) lost to host TCU 1-0.
TENNIS: FSU's Jeff Groslimond lost to Duke's Ludovic Walter 6-4, 6-2 in the quarterfinals of the National Indoor Tournament in Chapel Hill, N.C. ... UF's Alex Liles , a freshman from Largo, lost to UM's Megan Bradley in the ITA Region Championships in Tuscaloosa, Ala.

Alicia Molik beat Maria Sharapova 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 for the Swiss-com Challenge title in Zurich, snapping the Russian's 12-match winning streak.
MADRID MASTERS: Marat Safin defeated David Nalbandian 6-2, 6-4, 6-3 in Spain and moved closer to locking up a berth in the season-ending Tennis Masters Cup in Houston next month.

San Jose gets leg up
Dwayne De Rosario and Craig Waibel each scored to lead host San Jose to a 2-0 victory over Kansas City to open the first-round MLS Western Conference series. The Wizards host Game 2 of the home-and-home, total-goals series Saturday.

Annus gives back medal
Hammer thrower Adrian Annus returned the gold medal he forfeited because of a doping violation at the Athens Games, but said he hopes to get it back after an appeal to the sports world's highest court. The Hungarian was disqualified for failing to take a post-Games drug test ordered by the IOC, which suspected samples he gave in Athens were manipulated.

Miller wins to begin
Bode Miller 's quest to become the first American in more than two decades to win the World Cup overall title got off to the perfect start with victory by more than a second in the season-opening giant slalom in Soelden, Austria.
SPEED SKATING: Olympic gold medalist Derek Parra and newcomer Maria Lamb won in West Allis, Wis., at the U.S. Long Track competition. Parra took the 5,000-meter race, the same event he won at the 2002 Salt Lake City Games, and Lamb, 18, won the 3,000.
