TAMPA - It was a little too early for someone to be trick or treating, so when a couple saw Darryl Jerome Lee stuffing a ski mask and gun into his waistband in a bank parking lot, they decided to call the police.

Lee, 42, is on probation for robbing the First National Bank on W Kennedy Boulevard in 1993. He was arrested again Tuesday after Officer Gary Metzger stopped him in the hallway of the building, according to Tampa police.

Police said Lee, of 1527 Spruce St., admitted he wanted to rob the bank, "but decided against it." The handgun turned out to be fake. Lee was charged with loitering and prowling, misdemeanors, police said.

Patron shot outside bar

TAMPA - Police say Dominic Moulder of 1003 N 26th St. fought back Monday night when a man tried to rob him at gunpoint outside the Starlight Lounge on Nebraska Avenue. Moulder ended up with a bullet in his leg, and the gunman ran away.

According to a police report, Moulder was walking to his car in back of the Starlight Lounge At about 8 p.m., a man with a handgun approached him and demanded his money. Moulder tried to wrestle the gun away from the robber, who fired four times. One bullet hit Moulder in the leg.

Moulder was taken to St. Joseph's Community Hospital for treatment of the bullet wound, which wasn't life threatening.

Fire damages home

TAMPA - Hillsborough Fire Rescue workers took less than 30 minutes to put out a fire Tuesday morning inside a 2,000-square-foot Town 'n Country home, but the blaze still caused about $25,000 in damage, said Hillsborough Fire Rescue spokesman Ray Yeakley. The fire at 8642 Manassas Road appeared to have started in the office and bathroom area, which sustained most of the damage, Yeakley said. The cause does not appear suspicious, he said.

Yeakley said the fire started about 8:30 a.m. after the residents left for work. No one was inside the home when the fire started. Records show it is owned by David J. and Jennifer L. Meyer.
