I'll have another...

Bowl of carrots. While we're thinking orange, consider the humble carrot as well as pumpkins and yams.

Carrots are inexpensive, long-lasting and easy to shave or puree. They can go with more than honey and apple pie spices, too: try mint, dill or cilantro. Niftiest I've tried lately were Moroccan carrots in tartly spiced vinegar at the new location of Jerusalem Cafe kosher restaurant, 30610 U.S. 19, Palm Harbor, (727) 781-4041.
